Charity of the Month, July 2023: Bottom Line.

This month’s charity is Bottom Line, an organization that provides mentoring and support programs to underserved students of color in order to help them get into, and be successful in college. Their headquarters is in Boston, but they also provide assistance to students in New York, Chicago, and several Ohio cities.

Bottom Line partners with assists students throughout their higher education journey through three different programs; College Access, College Success, and the Blueprint Program. The College Access program starts with students in high school, and guides them through the college application and acceptance process. Students receive one-on-one mentoring, as well as guidance with choosing the right college for their desired career path. The College Success Program and the Blueprint Program are in place to help students during their college career, through to graduation. Students receive help through on campus resources to keep them going through any road blocks or hardships and keep them on track. The Blueprint Program specifically helps students who do not attend schools that partner with Bottom Line, to ensure that they still get the help they need.

In light of the Supreme Court striking down Affirmative Action, organizations like Bottom Line are even more essential when it comes to addressing the racial inequality that exists in our education system. Their work to lift up underserved students of color and help them be successful in college, and in their careers will only help to close one of the many racial gaps in our society.
